Biden-McCarthy, match decisivo

pubblicato il rapporto mensile della BCE in cui ci si è focalizzati, tra le altre cose, sull’inasprimento delle condizioni di credito. Questo ha infatti provocato un crollo della richiesta di mutui e prestiti che non si vedeva da venti anni. 

L’inasprimento è stato più forte di quanto le banche avessero previsto nel trimestre antecedente. In ogni caso, il focus della BCE rimane far tornare l’inflazione intorno 2%. La Borsa di Atene vola dopo l’esito delle elezioni con la riconferma della fiducia nel premier uscente Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a capo del partito conservatore di Nea Dimokratia; in picchiata il rendimento del titolo di Stato a dieci anni.

L’importante è pensare in maniera positiva: i consumatori britannici hanno affermato di essere fiduciosi nel proprio futuro economico, nonostante l’inflazione inglese non sia esattamente sotto controllo e che ancora si muova a 2 cifre (basti ricordare che il livello dell’indice dei prezzi al consumo è arrivato a 10.1%). Secondo la rilevazione GfK l’indice della fiducia dei consumatori è salito dal minimo di -49 dell’era Liz Truss al -27 odierno: sulla fiducia incide il calo dei costi della componente energetica e secondo la società di consulenza Cornwall Insight in estate tali costi diminuiranno ulteriormente.

 

I negoziatori democratici hanno riferito al Presidente Biden che stanno facendo “progressi costanti” nei colloqui con i Repubblicani per evitare un default degli Stati Uniti, secondo fonti della Casa Bianca, facendo sperare che nell’incontro che si terrà oggi tra Biden e McCarthy si possa arrivare ad una quadra. Washington potrebbe andare in default su alcuni debiti già il prossimo 1° giugno a meno che il Congresso non voti per alzare il tetto del debito.

House Passes Debt Ceiling Bill

Debt Ceiling Agreement to go to House Vote

Tonight, congress will vote on the bill agreed by President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, as the US tries to avert X-date by raising the debt ceiling. According to Reuters, “the deal caps federal spending and forces more poor people to work for food aid, concessions that Democrats hate. But it also preserves much of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act and punts the next debt ceiling showdown into 2025, which Republicans hate.”
