Shutdown evitato, per ora

Nell’Eurozona il CPI annuale si attesta al 4.3% nel mese di settembre, in calo rispetto al 5.2% di agosto.

Il dato è inferiore anche rispetto alle previsioni degli analisti che vedevano un’inflazione al 4,5%. Christine Lagarde, parlando a una conferenza di Parigi organizzata insieme alla BEI, si è soffermata sulla transizione ecologica e sulla sua correlazione con l’inflazione, dichiarando che “gli ultimi anni hanno mostrato come prezzi volatili dell’energia e cambiamenti nei mercati possono avere significativi riflessi per le dinamiche dell’inflazione”.

Dall’altra parte dell’Oceano l’inflazione misurata dal PCE è aumentata del 3.5% nell’anno fino ad agosto e il PCE core è salito del 3.9% negli ultimi dodici mesi. Inoltre, rispetto al mese precedente il reddito personale è aumentato dello 0.4%, la spesa personale è cresciuta dello 0.4% e la bilancia commerciale flash ha registrato un deficit di 84.27 miliardi di dollari nello stesso mese. È stato trovato nel weekend un accordo ponte alla Camera per evitare lo shutdown, con McCarthy che però vuole cancellare la possibilità di inviare fondi all’Ucraina. Per Joe Biden si prospetta un’altra grana e un’altra battaglia e per la comunità internazionale un alto rischio, dovesse montare a opera dei Repubblicani una campagna mediatica contro i fondi a Kiev.

Ottime notizie dal Regno Unito: nel Q2 il PIL ha battuto le aspettative del mercato, marcando un +0.6% vs +0.2% atteso. Il dato assume un significato particolarmente positivo se lo si raffronta all’ultimo trimestre del 2019, l’ultimo senza l’effetto Covid: l’economia di Londra ha avuto una crescita dell’1.8%. Questo significa che l’effetto della pandemia è ormai completamente assorbito, sconfessando quindi le previsioni che vedevano ancora un’economia in contrazione dello 0.2% rispetto ai livelli precedenti alla pandemia.
