La Banca Centrale Europea vara il decimo aumento di tasso in questa epoca di restrizione monetaria, portando i tassi al 4.50%, livello mai raggiunto da quando è stata introdotta la moneta unica nel continente Blu. Nel commento post decisione, la numero uno dell’Eurotower Lagarde ha reiterato l’adagio “too high for too long”, mentre alle domande relative alle discussioni all’interno del Board hi dichiarato come ci si sia concentrati molto sui dati, con una buona maggioranza che ha votato per l’aumento. Le stime di crescita sono state tagliate (significativo il passaggio dal precedente +1.5% nel 2024 all’attuale 1%) e l’inflazione tenderà all’intorno del target nel 2025 (2.1%).

Oltreoceano, le richieste iniziali di sussidi di disoccupazione hanno registrato un dato di 220 mila, meglio delle previsioni di 225 mila. Anche il Producer Price Index ha registrato un dato

migliore delle previsioni, segnando uno 0.7% vs 0.4% previsto e il dato sulle vendite al dettaglio del mese di agosto registra un inatteso 0.6% vs 0.2% atteso.

L’economia britannica si trova ad affrontare le diverse conseguenze dell’aumento dei tassi di interesse da parte della BoE: la probabilità di registrare una recessione tecnica è infatti sempre più alta. L’economia britannica sta affrontando diversi problemi dovuti alla politica monetaria restrittiva, come la forte crescita dei salari e un mercato del lavoro in cui la domanda ha iniziato a diminuire e la riduzione della produzione complessiva a causa del deterioramento della domanda.
