Nel frattempo, sono sempre più persistenti le voci secondo cui la BCE si prepari a tagliare i tassi in modo più aggressivo in occasione della sua ultima riunione dell’anno. Martin Lane, capo economista della BCE, dichiara che l’inflazione salariale rimarrà probabilmente elevata nella seconda metà del 2024, impendendo alla BCE di procedere a tagli consistenti prima del 2025.

Durante una tavola rotonda tenutesi dopo gli incontri del Fondo Monetario Internazionale dei giorni scorsi, Catherine Mann, membro del Comitato di politica monetaria della BoE, dichiara, in linea con la sua posizione da falco, che è prematuro tagliare i tassi di interesse se c’è una persistenza strutturale nel rapporto tra i salari e lo stabilimento dei prezzi, affermando che l’inflazione nel settore dei servizi, seppur sotto il 5% è ancora lontana dall’obiettivo della banca del 2% e sottolineando, infine, la necessità di un maggiore rallentamento. Nonostante queste dichiarazioni gli operatori continuano a scommettere che la BoE ridurrà ulteriormente i tassi a novembre.
