Sul fronte dei dati economici, le vendite al dettaglio dell’Eurozona si espandono disattendendo le aspettative in agosto. Su base annua, le stesse aumentano dello 0.8% dopo una contrazione dello 0.1% a luglio, sebbene gli economisti si aspettassero una crescita dell’1%. Nel frattempo, il responsabile delle politiche della BCE François Villeroy, sulla necessità di tagliare i tassi, afferma: “Negli ultimi due anni il rischio principale è stato quello di superare l’obiettivo del 2%”. “Ora dobbiamo prestare attenzione anche al rischio opposto, quello di non raggiungere il nostro obiettivo a causa di una crescita debole e di una politica monetaria restrittiva troppo a lungo”.

I dati positivi dello scorso fine settimana spingono i traders a rivedere le aspettative di un taglio dei tassi di interesse della Fed di 50 punti base a novembre facendo schizzare il rendimento dei Treasuries a 10y per la prima volta dopo quattro anni, ma lasciando aperto tuttavia ancora qualche spiraglio. La risposta definitiva si avrà con i CPI degli Stati Uniti per settembre, che saranno pubblicati giovedì, per avere maggiore chiarezza sulle prossime mosse della Fed.

Rispetto alle precedenti dichiarazioni di Bailey, il Capo Economista della BoE, Pill, raccomanda un taglio graduale dei tassi per evitare rischi di riduzioni eccessive o troppo rapide. Il mercato si aspetta ora che la BoE possa tagliare nuovamente i tassi di interesse a novembre, oltre che nella prossima riunione. Cruciali saranno i dati sul PIL e sulla produzione industriale del Regno Unito per agosto che verranno pubblicati venerdì, per determinare le prossime mosse della BoE.
