This suggests that wider turnout will be high tomorrow.

4 million people have already cast their postal ballots in Georgia – as much as 80% of the total number of people that voted in the state during the 2020 Election. Meanwhile, The Washington Post are reporting that postal vote turnout has already surpassed total turnout in Connecticut, Delaware and South Carolina.

US Election

Today marks the final day of campaigning in the US, before tens of millions of Americans head to the polls tomorrow.

With the Presidential election widely being reported as too close to call, candidates Harris and Trump are targeting key swing states today on their last day of the campaign trail. The seven swing states in focus are Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona, which have a combined electoral collage count of 93 electoral votes. It’s worth noting that when Trump took the White House in 2016, the Republicans secured all of these states except Nevada, and when Biden won 2020, the Democrats took all of them bar North Carolina.

Vice President Kamala Harris will be using the final day to try to win over votes in the swing state of Pennsylvania through rallies in Allentown, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Given that the State has 19 electoral college votes, both parties see Pennsylvania of the utmost importance in the race for the White House. According to polling data from the New York Times and Siena Collage, Harris has seen her lead in the polls the Rust Belt state diminish over the course of the last few weeks, hence her focus on the State in the last day of campaigning today.

Indeed, according to The Economist’s polling data Pennsylvania has a 34% chance of deciding the election, so expect to see the State in particular focus over the next 48 hours.

Headlines over the weekend also focused on polling data from Ann Selzer, which suggested that Harris would win Iowa (a state which Trump secured in 2020 and 2016 by a considerable margin of around 10 percentage points). The poll cited how women and independents were shifting towards the Democratic Party, helping to create a three-point lead for Harris. While the poll has gained significant traction in the press – not least following Trump’s attack on it – given that Iowa has just six electoral votes, the Harris team will want to be far from complacent.

Meanwhile, Trump will be starting the day in North Carolina, ahead of heading to Pennsylvania and Michigan. Over the weekend, Trump continued to make baseless claims of widespread election fraud in Pennsylvania after visiting Michigan on Friday where he pledged to end the war in the Middle East without saying how.

According to the BBC’s Tom Bateman “Trump is accused of attempting to undermine the legitimacy of the election system among voters by repeating claims of voter fraud that aren’t backed by evidence.”

Trump’s rhetoric over placing tariffs on the US’ $3tn worth of imports has also featured heavily this weekend, with concerns being raised across the Atlantic over the potential impact of such policies. This is against just 27% of people in the UK who believe a Trump victory would be better for the country.

More people in the UK however believe a Trump presidency is more likely.

For more on the poll, follow the link below:

https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/britons-hope-harris-win-trump-us-president-poll-3360275

Today marks the final day of campaigning in the US, before tens of millions of Americans head to the polls tomorrow.

[1

16
post-10882","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-morning-updates","rp-language-en_gb
["GET
