L’Europa parte con la pubblicazione dell’inflazione del Bel Paese che cresce meno del previsto, aumentando i sentori di un taglio di tassi da parte della BCE, e con lo ZEW europeo che registra un valore di 43.9 vs 37.2. Senza peli sulla lingua, commentando le varie critiche ricevute, è la Lagarde, che sprezzante reitera come l’Istituto Centrale europeo non sia dipendente dalla cugina d’oltreoceano, ovvero la FED, bensì dai dati. Continuando nel suo discorso, la stessa nega interventi presenti e futuri sull’EUR, tenuto sempre però d’occhio.
Il presidente della Federal Reserve Jerome Powell, in un suo intervento, dichiara che l’economia statunitense continui a registrare risultati piuttosto positivi, pur riconoscendo che i dati recenti mostrino la mancanza di ulteriori progressi sul percorso di normalizzazione dell’inflazione. Da falco, chiede al mercato di attendere ancora, siccome la politica restrittiva della FED ha ancora bisogno di tempo per dare i suoi frutti.
Passando brevemente all’Asia, la Banca Centrale cinese si sente costretta ad intervenire nuovamente sullo yuan, lasciando la divisa perdere ancora terreno e trascinando con sé tutte le altre legate alla stessa.
In UK, l’Ufficio di statistica nazionale del Regno Unito segnala che le condizioni del mercato del lavoro si sono significativamente raffreddate da dicembre a febbraio. Il tasso di disoccupazione è cresciuto fortemente al 4.2% e il mercato del lavoro nel suo complesso ha visto il licenziamento di 156,000 lavoratori. I dati sul mercato del lavoro dimostrano l’incertezza sulle prospettive economiche, che potrebbe costringere i membri della BoE a ridurre i tassi di interesse prima di quanto previsto.
